When my boss picked up a new project, he asked me to be the lead architect.
I was hesitant to take the job, because I was forced to stay in the location during the entire project.
Usually I commute through the week or go home on the weekends. The project was going to last a full year. I didn’t want to be away from my family or my home for that long. Since my boss offered to give me a full salary plus 10%, I agreed to accept the project. My company also paid for a corporate apartment and new car lease. The corporate apartment was large in size with two bedrooms and an office. The apartment also had two bathrooms. Each one of the apartments were completely furnished, and I got to choose my own custom furniture style. They had a few different furniture styles to choose from, like Southwest sparkler, Grand European Retreat, and Desert eclectic home. I wanted to find something that was more of a rustic feeling, but the southwest sparkler style was close. I even ordered a custom sofa and loveseat to go with the furnishings. During the entire year stay, I felt like I was at home. Since I chose my own apartment layout and furniture style, the whole place felt cozy and warm. The whole job went longer than anyone expected, and I ended up in the area for 16 months in total. By the end of the job, I was ready to go home and see my family and friends. I took six weeks of vacation after that job.
